"Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. "But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall."
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:24-27‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Here in Florida the possibility of a tropical storm or hurricane is very real.  Just recently we had a tropical storm, Emily, that dumped up to 8 inches of rain in some parts of our area. It formed so quickly I know it took many by surprise.
Well right now we are in the middle of hurricane season and there is always the constant reminder that we should be prepared.

Hurricane Gert  is kicking up her heels off our eastern seaboard of the United States and there are two areas of disturbance marching westward from Africa across the Atlantic towards the Caribbean.  The storms are expected to intensify over the next 5 to 7 days and I'm sure we will be reminded to get ready, be prepared!

Today's Scripture, the words of Jesus, is a reminder to get ready, be prepared because storms will come. These storms are more than just wind and rain. They are the issues and challenges that we face in every day life.

Jesus said we can be like the wise man or the foolish one. The difference between the two is that the wise one not only heard what Jesus said but they did what Jesus said. Whereas the foolish one heard what Jesus said but failed to act on it. One put feet to their faith and the other did not.

Check out the Message Bible:  “These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.
26-27 “But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards.”
28-29 When Jesus concluded his address, the crowd burst into applause. They had never heard teaching like this. It was apparent that he was living everything he was saying—quite a contrast to their religion teachers! This was the best teaching they had ever heard.

It's up to you and I which one we will be!  Oh and one other thing, let's not wait for the storm to hit but let's get ready and be prepared before hand!
